Tournayre is one of the few authentically
French
pastry-shops in
Toronto, in the Beaches. Very good
croissants,
brioches, and pastries
are made fresh every day, like they
should. Try for example the very good
Suzan: a sponge cake base supporting a
back currant mousse that hides slices of
pear
poached in vanilla sirup, topped with a
black currant coulis and fresh berries.
Large
cakes are also available
for take out -- a great idea when you're
looking
for the perfect
ending for a meal at home. Tournayre is
probably
the only place in the
city that makes
Kugelhopf, this
delicious sweet
bread from the Alsace
region of France. In fact, the French call it a
cake, not a bread:
that says it all. Light lunches (like quiches
and sandwiches) are also served. Tournayre
has a small but
comfy
seating area, convenient for breakfast or an
afternoon tea.
