Bouley is one of the very best pastry shops in the city. The croissants, brioches and other morning pastries are terrific -- and kugelhopf, the Alsatian sweet bread, can sometimes be spotted. The pastry counter is very well stocked, and combines classical French pastries (almond-pear tarts, eclairs, Napoleon or opera cakes), to new creations that include tastes of lavender, tomato, rose or lychee. Our very favourite cake is the Ispahan: a large macaron stuffed with lychees, fresh raspberries, and rose-water flavoured custard. A rare delight.
